The
author received the Premio Lazarillo de Ilustración año 2001 (Lazarillo of
Illustration Award, in the year 2001), granted to the author of the best illustrations
of an unpublished book for children
Academic distinctions
The author was invited to the Biennial of Bratislava 1991; a candidate for
the Hans Christian Andersen Award 1994 and 1996; IBBY's List of Honour for
the book "Grandpa's Pipe" (La Pipa del Abuelo). "Three Very Brave Boys" (Tres
Chicos Muy Valientes) was included in the Banco del Libro de Venezuela (The
Book Bank of Venezuela); also, in Los Destacados de Alija 1997 (The Most Outstanding
of Alija 1997) for the Collection "Historias de Millitray" (Millitray Stories)
and in 1999 for the book "The Mouse that Wished to Eat Up the Moon" (El Ratón
que Quería Comerse la Luna); as well as in the Lista de Honor (List of Honour)
for several books and collections. His works have appeared in the Catalogues
of the International Biennials of Bratislava, Teheran, Bologna, Fill 91 of
Guadalajara, Fundalectura of Bogotá, Piedra Libre of the Cedilij of Córdoba
and "Catalogue 2000" of the IBBY Congress of Carthagena of Indies.
